Groupe Laperriere & Verreault Inc. (GL&V) of Trois Rivieres, QC reports that its GL&V Pulp Group Inc. subsidiary in Nashua, NH (USA), one of the two companies acquired from Beloit Corp. this past February, has been awarded an $8 million (CAD 12 million) order by the Grande Prairie Division of Weyerhaeuser Canada. Weyerhaeuser's Grande Prairie mill makes softwood kraft market pulps.

According to a GL&V release, this highly complex project includes the design and installation of a two-stage oxygen delignification system. GL&V is to supply the main components, based for the most part on the IMPCO technology it acquired from Beloit. Delivery is to begin in the fourth quarter of the current fiscal year, with a startup planned for the spring of 2002.

As part of Weyerhaeuser's Grande Prairie Optimization Project, this investment is designed to increase the mill's operating efficiency while minimizing its overall environmental impact, particularly that of the bleaching process, according to GL&V. Bob Harrison, president of GL&V Pulp and Paper Group, pointed out that "Weyerhaeuser selected GL&V's technology because of the success it has had with similar installations at Grande Prairie's sister mill in Kamloops, BC, Canada."

Laurent Verreault, president and CEO of GL&V, added that since the beginning of the current fiscal year on April 1, the two new subsidiaries bought from Beloit have won CAD 75 million in contracts. "Consistent with our expansion strategy, we have acquired proven quality products, recognized trademarks, and a solid engineering and sales team. Combined with the acquisition of Dorr-Oliver in Sept. 1999 and our internal development, the integration of this business base has contributed to increase our total order backlog by more than 75% since last year." Verreault specified that the company has more than $175 million in orders, with an average turnover rate of about four months.

Founded in 1975, GL&V is a world leader in the design and manufacture of engineered proprietary equipment for the pulp and paper industry and other strategic markets, consisting mainly of chemicals, food, mining, minerals, energy, and the environment. The company holds the proprietary rights to most of the machinery used in its customized technological solutions. Its equipment is manufactured primarily in the company's North American plants, as well as by various subcontractor partners. GL&V's network extends into more than 40 countries on five continents. The company has operations and/or sales representatives in Canada, the USA, Europe, Australia, Africa, Asia, and South America, in addition to sales agents in most industrialized regions. GL&V employs more than 1,400 people worldwide.
