OSIsoft Releases PI Connector For OPC UA And Announces Alliance With Honeywell To Accelerate Scalability And Commercial Deployment

New PI Connector delivers data from OPC UA-based devices to PI System providing access to data from devices ranging from distributed control systems down to small embedded devices

Berlin, Germany And San Leandro, CA (PRWEB) OSIsoft LLC, a global leader enabling operational intelligence, today announced PI Connector for OPC UA for exchanging operational data between OPC UA-based devices and the PI System.

OSIsoft also announced that it is collaborating with Honeywell to optimize the PI Connector for OPC UA for scalability to accelerate commercial adoption. The announcement was made at the OSIsoft EMEA Users Conference taking place this week in Berlin.

PI Connectors are one of OSIsoft’s newest technologies. Connectors deliver data from sensors and control systems to the PI System, which serves as a data infrastructure for commercial and industrial enterprises. The PI Connector portfolio is the fastest and easiest way to connect new data sources to the PI System. PI Connectors can intelligently scan a data source and begin sending data to the PI System with minimal configuration.

The PI Connector for OPC UA also improves performance and stability. The underlying framework is up to ten times faster than previous data collection technology. The new connector also supports the Data Access (DA) and the Historical Access (HA) parts of the OPC UA specification.

Honeywell has developed a high performance OPC UA Server that can deliver one million plus monitored item notifications per second on a standard business class platform. It is also able to monitor simultaneously changing values at faster than one hundred millisecond rates, opening the doors to new, innovative ways of utilizing the data previously locked away in their systems.

“The Matrikon OPC UA SDK from Honeywell is a single scalable SDK for customers to deploy IIoT connectivity across their product lines, ranging from networked discrete sensors to enterprise servers,” said Elgonda La Grange, director for HPS’ Advanced Solutions software products. “With its “server-in-a-box” design, the SDK provides vendors with a fast, easy method of implementing optimized, highly reliable OPC UA products without requiring much expertise in OPC UA – ensuring significantly reduced time to market.”

OSIsoft has developed PI Connectors for BACnet, Ethernet/IP, HART-IP, CygNet, IPMI and many more.
“We’re extremely excited to collaborate with Honeywell on our OPC UA connector. Protocol profusion is a fact of life for industrial and commercial customers and the situation for most will only become more complex as more devices generate critical data,” said Martin Otterson, Senior Vice President of Sales, Marketing and Partners at OSIsoft. “PI Connector for OPC UA and our entire PI Connector portfolio lets users take advantage of these different protocols while eliminating data silos and other barriers. This is how digital transformation takes place.”

The Expanding PI System Ecosystem
OSIsoft’s PI System is one of the world’s most widely used technologies for the Industrial Internet of Things. The PI System captures data from sensors, industrial equipment and other devices and transforms it into rich, real-time insight that engineers, executives and partners can use to reduce costs, optimize production, improve safety or make critical business decisions.

Over 1,000 leading utilities, 95 percent of the largest oil and gas companies and more than 65 percent of the Fortune 500 industrial companies rely on the high-fidelity insights from the PI System to manage their businesses. Worldwide, over 1.5 billion serve sensor-based data to PI System.
