Balcones Resources Merges With Austin Shred
Austin, TX — Balcones Resources, the largest independent recycler of high-grade paper and provider of comprehensive environmental services in the Southwest, recently announced its merger with Austin Shred, the leading locally-owned offsite provider of secure document destruction services. The merger will create the premier document and product destruction facility in Central Texas.
Under the terms of the agreement, Austin Shred will function as the Central Texas arm of Balcones' secure document destruction operation. Shane Mericle will serve as the Vice President of Operations for Austin Shred under the merger. Effective January 1, 2008, the company will officially be known as "Austin Shred, a Balcones Resources company." Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed, but are said to be a cash and stock combination.
"This merger leverages Austin Shred's contacts, clients, and resources, helping to round out the services that Balcones Resources offers and accelerating our growth exponentially," said Kerry Getter, Balcones Resources CEO. "With our combined equipment and increased capacity, we will now be able to offer customers a faster, wider variety of document destruction services at a lower price."
Indeed, Balcones Resources had only recently started a shred division in Austin, and, by merging with Austin Shred, will now have the capacity to handle tractor trailer loads of material, in excess of 1000 tons per month. Balcones will also inherit Austin Shred's 350 customers; benefit from Austin Shred's sustainable shredding expertise and customer service.
"The timing of this merger could not be more ideal: Austin Shred was getting ready to move into recycling just as Balcones Resources – with whom we had a longstanding relationship – was looking to spin off its shred business," said Shane Mericle, Austin Shred Vice President. "Joining forces with Balcones affords us the opportunity to service clients in a more economical and efficient manner. It is also the perfect marriage of like-minded companies with the same commitment to providing unparalleled, high-touch, scalable customer service combining today's technology with the mom-and-pop shop of yesteryear."
With this merger, the combined companies will have the most document and product destruction capacity of any company in Central Texas.
