Biocide Program

ECC InternationaloForce antimicrobial program for the pulp and paper industry includes Metasol PAA, Metasol LT, and BioECC 100. Metasol PAA (peracetic acid) is a chlorine free, non-AOX, oxidizer that does not have any of the drawbacks associated with halogenated products. It provides wide spectrum control and quick kill at low concentration. Its decomposition products (water, acetic acid, and water) are innocuous and environmentally acceptable. It also does not contribute to AOX or degrade paper machine clothing fibers.

Metasol LT (low toxicity) is a biocide chemistry for the paper industry. It is an organic biocide with broad spectrum activity and a wide pH treatment range. Metasol LT has very low acute toxicity, degrades to benign molecules, and does not contribute to AOX or THM. When used together, Metasol PAA and Metasol LT have a synergistic antimicrobial effect. BioECC 100 is a nonionic copolymer that forms a protective barrier that minimizes bacterial adhesion on surfaces. By reducing biofilm formation, BioECC 100 enhances the performance of other products used to control microbiological growth, thus allowing for decreased concentrations and lowering overall costs. It is also finding application in showers where chlorine is inadequate or biocide too costly.
