The 9820-DPM and 9830-DPM control units provide a non-mechanical solution to monitoring for a dry versus wet condition within a closed pipe or pump. The 9830-DPM unit is mounted safely away from the pipe using two-conductor shielded wired. This distance can be up to I km using the Pulse Module Circuit (PMC). At the control unit, two relays activate on an alarm condition. One is typically used for alarm lights on the enclosure front and the other is used for interface with pumps, alarms, valves, etc. Units are also available close coupled to the sensor for economical installations where control wiring is desired at the pump location (9820-DPM).

Two sensor styles are available. The wafer flange sensor mounts in front of a pump or between two flanges to monitor material within a pipe. It is used on metal pipes. The standard wetted flange material is PVC. For corrosive applications, an inserted Teflon and 316-SS probe may be used, or the flange can be Kynar.

For plastic pipes, a clamp-on sensor can be externally mounted without having to intrude the pipe in any way. The flange and probe sensor are explosion proof. These, and the clamp-on sensor, can be offered "intrinsically safe" with the optional Intrinsic Safety Barrier. The system has no moving parts, eliminating maintenance due to mechanical failure.
