RYECO offers a system which solves the costly problems of undetected paper edge defects
RYECO offers a system which solves the costly problems of undetected paper edge defects, namely hours of production downtime and lost profits. The Dual Edge System IIdetects and marks edge defects including fold-overs and non-separated edge cracks resulting in improved runability, reduced trim and lower paper breaks.

ECD-4000 Edge Crack Detection Module: The heart of the System II, the ECD-4000 uses a unique patented* non-contacting detection system. High speed optical sensors combined with precision air jets detect edge cracks before they separate and become a fold or turnover. Two precise streams of air are directed toward opposite surfaces of the web. As a non-separated crack or tear passes through the sensor jaws, the defect is deflected to form a small opening for the optics to penetrate. The same air which deflects the crack closes it as it leaves the sensor. The deflection air is adjustable for different grades of paper.

EMM-2000 Edge Marking Module: The EMM-2000 marks the top and/or bottom surfaces of one edge with any one of six colors. The six colors are derived from only three dye tanks thus eliminating unnecessary hardware. The system uses two spray nozzles to ensure a mark even if one becomes plugged. The automatic water purge system cleans the marker internally to minimize nozzle clogging. All waste water and over spray dye is collected and siphoned through a static vacuum pump to the sewer. During web breaks, the marker and vacuum pump are automatically purged with water for two minutes. The premixed dye is replenished in remotely located storage tanks. All RYECO dyes are certified by the FDA for use in food products.

ETM-1000 Edge Tracking Module: The ETM-1000 maintains the position of the other modules on the edge of the moving web. The point of inspection is adjustable within 3/16" of the edge. The system automatically retracts upon occurrence of a web break. The ETM-1000 Edge Tracking Module consists of an infra-red edge sensor and a sealed electrical linear actuator. A local control panel allows for manual or automatic edge tracking.

EBM-100 Edge Base Module: The EBM-100 contains the support hardware and software for the system. It includes a mini-computer with a 24 button operator interface panel. Ample digital I/O allows for interfacing to existing process control equipment. Programs are maintained in EEPROM and battery back-up RAM. Software changes, available free for the first year, are easily accomplished by swapping EEPROM modules. A 24 volt DC power supply provides all control voltages for the system.

The RYECO Dual Edge System II™ is a complete solution to your edge defect detection problems.

RYECO's Dual Edge System II™ offers capabilities not available from full web inspection systems including camera, laser and photo-electric types. Instant feedback of when and where edge cracks occur means immediate elimination of their source. Feed forward information via colored marks completely eliminates production losses downstream.

The RYECO Dual Edge System II™ software features make the system flexible and easy to operate.

The keypad and 16 character alphanumeric display allow for easy access to system parameters. Indicator lights illuminate when a crack occurs and pulsate when a fold-over occurs. A status display shows the current crack count and the last twenty reels, or time bases, can be recalled from system memory. Special digital outputs are available for interfacing into existing process control systems.
