During the papermaking process, starch and other additives are applied to improve strength and control sheet properties. The Hydra-sizer, a patented sheet impregnation system, is an alternative method of doing this.
GL&V Pulp and Paper Grouppapermaking process, starch and other additives are applied to improve strength and control sheet properties. The Hydra-sizer, a patented sheet impregnation system, is an alternative method of doing this.

It uses a unique technology to apply starch and other additives (pigments, fillers, etc.). It features an applicator that is positioned over the four-drinier, with an adjustable support structure, catch pan and additive supply system. A liquid dispersion of additive is forced out of a narrow slot in the applicator and falls several inches as a full-width curtain onto the wet stock. The application of additives can be controlled to either disperse them through the sheet or keep them on the surface. Retention levels are high and there is no loss in dying capacity, making it an ideal addition to an existing machine.

It is available in two versions: a linear model, which applies additives at a constant rate across the machine width, and a profiling version, which can vary the addition rate in a number of distinct zones across the machine.
