Indus International Teams With IBM to Develop Mobile Computing Solution - IndusAnyWare
Indus notes the benefit to its customers is a more timely and accurate exchange of information between the field personnel and PassPort's Enterprise Asset Management system, and a more productive, efficient work force, resulting in increased returns.
``IndusAnyWare continues Indus' strategy of exploiting emerging technologies to provide state-of-the-art products, allowing clients to maintain their competitive advantage. IndusAnyWare extends the utilization of PassPort to provide PassPort data and work processes wherever the workforce needs them using a wide array of pervasive computing devices,'' said Robert Hofer, Vice President of Product Strategy for Indus. ``As clients increasingly emphasize maximizing workforce efficiency, products like IndusAnyWare are essential. It is not about the desktop anymore. It's about empowering workers wherever they may be to utilize the full range of information resources available to them.'' ``IBM's objective is to provide customers with solutions and services that give them access to information and applications, from any device, whenever and wherever they need it,'' said Jon Prial, Director of Marketing of IBM's Pervasive Computing Division. ``Indus' offerings combined with IBM software provides a wider range of platforms, solutions and services to enterprises wanting to enable a mobile field force.''
IndusAnyWare enables workers to download and view their daily work schedules and supporting work order information from the field, thereby reducing travel time to/from the office and ensuring they have the most up-to-date schedule information. Field personnel are able to record work progress, hours worked and work completion details during the workday, and transmit this information immediately back to PassPort. Technicians can also generate a new work order from the work site if they find additional equipment problems while on a job or if they anticipate an asset will need work in the future.
The IndusAnyWare client application is designed to run on any Windows 32-based platform including Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows NT or Windows 2000. Future releases of the product will extend the application to appropriate handheld devices as well as provide support for integrated scanners. IndusAnyWare is fully extensible, allowing for additional capabilities and is modular, allowing customers to install only those mobile computing capabilities that are required.
IndusAnyWare uses IBM's WebSphere Application Server and SecureWay Wireless Gateway, a key component of IBM's WebSphere Everyplace Suite, a highly scalable server software for connecting millions of wireless and wired devices to the Web.
