Lyra Research, Inc., was founded in 1991 by Charles LeCompte, formerly editor of Printout, a newsletter covering the computer printer industry published by BIS CAP International. Upon founding Lyra, Mr. LeCompte immediately began to publish a new newsletter covering the hard copy industry, The Hard Copy Observer, which has since become far and away the leading publication serving the industry and, in fact, the printer industry bible. Mr. LeCompte in the meantime has become recognized throughout the industry as the leading authority on printers and printing. His commitment to excellence in every endeavor and to client needs is the hallmark of Lyra Research, Inc.

Lyra Research, Inc., has expanded significantly since 1991 in response to changes in the industry and changes in clients' needs and expectations. Lyra created a research unit charged with monitoring and recording every significant event, product, and trend in the hard copy and related industries. Lyra also has hired top analysts directly from within the printer, supplies, and digital photography industries as part of Lyra's ongoing goal of developing and delivering a portfolio of hard copy publications and electronic services. Now part of that portfolio are:

  • The Hard Copy Supplies Journal
  • The Hardcopy Data Source
  • The Hard Copy Industry Advisory Service
  • The Hard Copy Supplies Advisory Service
  • The Digital Photography Advisory Service
  • The Cost-per-Page Database

Lyra staff has expanded as well, growing from more than ninefold from 1993 to 1999.

Lyra's goal has not changed over the years: Lyra Research, Inc., aims to be the authoritative source for information, data, analysis, and insight on the imaging and related industries through publications, services, and consulting.
