New Logic Research Announces Vendor Owned-and-Operated Wastewater Treatment Facility at a Major California Industrial Laundry
A manufacturer of proprietary membrane filtration and solids separation equipment, New Logic Research, Inc. Inc., (New Logic) of Emeryville, CA announces an agreement with California Linen Rental Co. (Cal Linen) for the installation of its Vibratory Shear Enhanced Processing (VSEP) membrane filtration system. Partially funded by the East Bay Municipal District's (EBMUD) Financial Incentives for Business and Industry Program, the VSEP technology will be used to maximize water recycling and minimize waste at Cal Linen's Oakland, CA facility.
Cal Linen is a major industrial laundry facility which rents laundered items to small businesses. These items include linens, clothing and other miscellaneous washable items. Currently, the facility generates 220 gpm of wastewater flow during the operating hours. With New Logic's VSEP technology Cal Linen will be able to recycle up to 80% of the water used in the process.
Anticipated savings/credits to Cal Linen will result from decreases in the following: Reduced heating of raw water, lower chemical cost and sludge disposal cost, labor cost, detergent cost, raw water charges and sewer charges. Additional savings will result from future expansion at the facility.
Installation of the project is being done under a shared savings program. Under this arrangement, New Logic will provide and install a complete system. Savings resulting from the operation of the VSEPs will be used to cover the cost of power and system maintenance. The balance of the savings will be shared between New Logic and Cal Linen.
As the attached flow schematic shows, the unique process design integrates the use of VSEP with the existing DAF units to increase the overall system efficiency and economics. VSEP technology can be used to upgrade an existing wastewater facility to maximize the portion of the water that is recycled or as a single step process for a new wastewater recycling facility.
New Logic's VSEP technology is being incorporated into various applications for water pre-treatment, recycling and wastewater treatment. In a single step, it can filter streams containing a variety of contaminants without the fouling problems exhibited by some conventional membrane systems. The process not only filters suspended solids but also reduces oil and grease, BOD, COD and color bodies. The result is a clear, reusable water stream and a concentrated sludge. The key factor to VSEP's performance and resistance to membrane fouling is its ability to generate shear forces at 150,000 inverse seconds which is ten times greater than the shear in conventional cross-flow systems.
