The Spider uses microprocessing and ultrasonic sound technology to measure the roundness of a paper roll without destroying the integrity of the roll or the roll wrapping
Auramo, Inc.uses microprocessing and ultrasonic sound technology to measure the roundness of a paper roll without destroying the integrity of the roll or the roll wrapping. Test results can be viewed on a LCD (onsite) or directed to a DOS-system printer or a computer disk for further analysis.

The lightweight, compact unit's measurement process is extremely easy, according to the company. Its aluminum frame is placed on top of the paper roll and secured with three extendable legs without damaging the wrapping. Precise positioning is not critical. Any misalignment between the centerline of the roll and the unit will be automatically compensated by the analysis program.

After fitting of the unit, a transducer is rotated around the roll. The distance between the transducer and the roll is then measured at four degree intervals at an average accuracy of 0.004 inches. A total of 10 levels can be measured from one paper roll. The stored data is analyzed by the push of one button, and the out-of-round information at each measurement level is displayed on the unit's LCD.
