Patria Papier Rebuilding PM 6 at Frantschach

Patria Papier & Zellstoff AG, a leading manufacturer of sack kraft grades in Europe, is rebuilding PM 6 at its Frantschach mill in Austria. Scheduled startup of the upgraded machine is October 1999.

The rebuild order, recently placed with Voith Sulzer Paper Technology in St. Pölten, Austria, includes the installation of a Step Diffusor headbox with ModuleJet and a new fourdrinier section. In addition, a major part of the dryer section will be refurbished. Voith Sulzer will also provide entire engineering for the rebuild, supervision of installation, training, and startup.

With the mill's successful installation of a ModuleJet headbox in 1997 on PM 8, a new, top-level quality standard in sack paper production was reached. The goal of the PM 6 rebuild is to raise paper quality to the PM 8 level and to achieve a 15% production increase.

The PM 6 at Frantschach has a wire width of 4,900 mm and a design speed of 800 m/min. It produces sack kraft papers in a 60-120 g/m2 basis weight range.
