The Vanguard piping compensator with its six unique features was originally developed for steam line applications in the paper industry. It has proved to be far superior to conventional flexible hose or expansion joints over years of satisfactory performance in a variety of critical commercial installations. The unit replaces the highly susceptible, thin-walled metal bellows commonly used in industry to compensate for expansion, contraction, and lateral or angular movements, thus eliminating the possibility of dangerous blowouts and expensive downtime.

The compensator is standard for pipe sizes from 1 in. through 4 in., and is custom engineered in larger sizes, longer lengths, and special metals. Optional installation features include thread ends, weld ends, flanged ends, and venturi flanges. As with all valves, the unit should be protected by a strainer.

Features include:

  • Universal compensation for pipe movement, both laterally and longitudinally (e.g., a 6-ft custom model will provide 6.25 in. of lateral compensation with "standard" longitudinal compensation)
  • Dependable long life, eliminating the uncertainty associated with bellows-type connections
  • Fully contained live seals that are always under mechanical compression, providing a perfect mate to hemispheric ball-nipples
  • Ten degrees (10o) angular compensation, permitting ready alignment
  • Full circle (360o) torsional rotation, making it possible to install without the expense of unions
  • Integral part of the piping system, eliminating the need for tie rods, anchors, hinges, gimbals, or other alignment devices.
