Pulp, Paper, And Forest Products Industry Safety Conference In Oregon

Salem, OR - Employees, managers, and contractors in the Northwest pulp and paper industry are invited to attend a conference Dec. 3-6, 2013, that is designed to highlight the latest workplace safety and health best practices.

The Occupational Safety and Health Division (Oregon OSHA) is one of several partners presenting the Western Pulp, Paper, and Forest Products Safety and Health Conference at the Jantzen Beach Red Lion Hotel in Portland.

“This year, we’ve added safety topics to include the forest products industry, said Sharell Lien, coordinator of the conference. “Machinery found in both pulp and paper facilities and saw mills will allow workers in each industry to directly apply what they learn.

The conference keynote speaker is Georgia Pacific CEO and President Jim Hannan, who will present “Making Safety a Value on Tuesday, Dec. 3. Hannan will share details of the company’s ongoing safety journey and touch on the importance of Georgia Pacific’s culture and employee training.

Twenty-eight workshops and several roundtable discussions are scheduled during the four-day conference. Training on workplace issues that affect pulp, paper, and forest product workers are part of the program. Workshops include:
• Combustible dust
• Near-miss best practices
• Lockout/tagout and machine guarding
• Employee involvement roundtable
