Rolland Starts up New Converting and Distribution Center in Quebec
Rolland Inc. has started up a new, $15-million fine paper converting and distribution center near its headquarters in Saint-Jerome, QC. To be known as the Centre de Conversion et Distribution Rolland (CCDR), the plant will operate as a separate company division and an independent profit center.
CCDR begins operations with 100 employees and two Jagenberg precision sheeters, a cut-size ECH Will sheeter, and Lenox sheeters and guillotines. It has a sheeting capacity of 100,000 m.t./yr. One of the Jagenberg units can sheet 155 m.t./day. The 210,000-ft2 facility is located on an 825,000-ft2 property complex acquired by Rolland in the fall of 1996.
The complex was substantially modified to convert it into a modern, efficient converting and distribution center. Its warehousing area will allow a complete inventory (7,000 m.t.) of the various products made by Rolland.
CCDR is located only a few kilometers from Rolland's fine papers in Saint-Jerome, which will be one of its main customers. However, the plant will eventually offer its services to Provincial Papers and other businesses requiring sheeting services.
The Rolland fine paper mill produces some 370 m.t./day of miscellaneous fine papers from recycled furnishes. It currently operates an integrated finishing line that contains a 102-in. Jagenberg rewinder, two 8-pocket ECH Will cut-size sheeters, and a Mason Scott Trimmer, in addition to four ream wrapping and cartoning units and a sheet sorter.
According to Rolland, the CCDR investment will allow it to meet the quality and service requirements of its customers at a lower cost. It also allows the company to keep and even increase its skilled manpower levels in Saint-Jerome.
Founded in 1882, Rolland Inc. is one of Canada's leading manufacturers of coated and uncoated specialty fine papers as well as high-end deinked pulp. The company also ranks among the largest Canadian distributors of fine papers, graphic arts supplies, and related products.
