Soporcel to Install New Fine Paper Line at Lavos Mill

Soporcel-Sociedade Portuguesa de Papel SA is adding a new production line for its mill in Lavos, Portugal, including a new paper machine. The new line will produce copy paper and offset grades from eucalyptus pulp .

The order, placed with Voith Sulzer Papiermaschinen GmbH, Heidenheim, Germany, includes the refining system for the preparation of eucalyptus fiber material, screens for the approach flow system, and the complete PM 2, including machine control system and process and condition monitoring system. Two winders and all of the equipment for transport and packaging of the finished rolls are also part of the order.

At this mill, the Voith Sulzer Group is supplying one of the paper induusstry's most modern production plants with the latest technological developments for the production of writing and printing papers. Key components of the paper machine include:

  • ModuleJet headbox
  • DuoFormer TQ
  • Tandem NipcoFlex shoe press
  • Speedsizer
  • SoftNip calenders
  • Sirius wind-up system.

The machine has a wire width of 9,350 mm. Its design speed is 1,700 m/min., and the maximum production speed is 1,500 m/min.

With this investment for PM 2, the production capacity of the Lavos plant will increase by 400,000 m.t./yr. Startup will be in the middle of the year 2000.
