Spanish Mill to Install World's Fastest Corrugating Medium Machine
The Spanish packaging producer, S.A.I.C.A. (Sociedad AnĂ³nima Industrias Celusosa Aragonesa) is set to take a quantum paper machine speed leap in the production of corrugating medium. It has placed an order for a new Voith Sulzer Paper Technology (VSPT) machine with a design speed of 1,500 m/min and an operating speed of 1,450 m/min.
The new machine will produce corrugating medium at basis weights of 75-110 g/m2 on a wire width of 8,100 mm, with a production of approximately 1,200 m.t./day. It is scheduled for startup in the fall of 2000.
Maximum paper quality and machine runnability will be ensured by the advanced components of the new machine. The wet section will be comprised of a DuoFormer Base gap former, fitted with a MasterJet G headbox with ModuleJet, and a DuoCentri NipcoFlex press section. The dryer section uses the single-tier Top DuoRun concept, a SpeedFlow for surface sizing, and a Sirius Reel to wind up rolls with a diameter of up to 3.9m.
In addition to the new paper machine, VSPT will also supply stock preparation equipment, the approach-flow system, and basic engineering, personnel training and erection of the equipment.
New broke pulpers for Jiangsu mill
Voith Sulzer Stoffaufbereitung GmbH & Co., KG, Ravensburg, Germany, has received an order to supply 12 newly developed broke pulpers for an ultra-modern 10m-wide newsprint machine to be installed in the Jiangsu Province of China..
Main advantages of the new broke pulper are its special energy-saving design, its reinforced gear bearings, and the rotor, now mounted for the first time directly on the gear output shaft. A floating stuffing box casing improves pulper sealing by compensating for radial movements of the rotor shaft, thus relieving the packing rings and considerably improving stuffing box service life.
Depending on the application, one or more new broke pulper units can be installed per tub for press and dry broke pulping. The new rotor was developed by VSPT based on many years of experience with wide, high-speed paper machines.
Rock-Tenn tailing screens
In other mill projects involving VSPT (Appleton, WI) equipment, Rock-Tenn Co., St. Paul, MN, will be adding two new Combisorter coarse tailing screens to improve its coarse screening system. With the addition of the two units, the mill will reduce landfill costs and increase fiber recovery.
The company chose Combisorters based on previous experiences with the screens at the St. Paul and other company mill locations. The units are scheduled to be installed this summer.
Little Rapids pulper tank
Little Rapids Corp., Shawano, WI, is installing VSPT's HOG pulping unit on its last pulping tank. The mill based its selection of the unit on previous successful retrofits of pulper tanks with HOG pulping units. The installation, which will increase production from the pulper, will take place in mid-year.
Georgia-Pacific OCC upgrade
Georgia-Pacific Corp., Big Island, VA, has purchased the latest model of a Contaminex CMV from VSPT in Appleton, WI. Installed in the TwinPulp III detrashing system of the OCC plant, The Contaminex CMV will improve overall performance and quality of the system. Startup is planned for March 1999.
