CSG spirals are always manufactured in pairs to assure proper mounting distance. These sets are typically made from 8620 materials, carburized, and through hardened. The pair is then run together (lapped). This lapping process gives each set a proper wearing in and the best possible contact ratio. Spirals are used when greater torque strength is required and where gears are being run at high speeds.
