Stamford Scientific (SSI) Provides Industry First Anti-Fouling Diffuser For Pulp And Paper Wastewater And Dairy Wastewater Treatment

Poughkeepsie, NY - Stamford Scientific Inc. (SSI), a global leader in wastewater treatment diffuser products and support facility for wastewater treatment plants, announced an Anti-Fouling PTFE coated membrane diffuser for the Pulp and Paper wastewater, Kraft Paper and Dairy wastewater markets.

The new fine bubble diffuser from SSI significantly reduces or eliminates calcium carbonate fouling. In comparison, typical EPDM or Ceramic diffuser membranes require frequent cleaning with acid due to rapid adherence of calcium carbonate.

"We came across the SSI diffusers and first tried them in the summer of 2005. It was probably the best decision we have made in our [tissue wastewater treatment plant since it started processing water... We also see that they do not plug up or scale up as bad as the old diffusers," said Paul Johnson, Pulp and Paper Customer (Menasha, WI).

"Last year, we tried a new type of membrane, PTFE membrane discs that we compared with EPDM membrane discs. After ten months of use, PTFE membranes show less fouling than EDPM...With PTFE membranes, we will reduce maintenance frequency and achieve a higher oxygen transfer for a longer time period. It is the first time we can achieve more than a year without maintenance," said Pierre Fillion, Dairy Customer (Longueuil, QC).

"This product changes everything for those who purchase aeration systems for Pulp and Paper plants. The PTFE fine bubble diffuser is economical, has proven resistance to fouling at Pulp and Paper plants, has a moderate headloss, and a very high oxygen transfer efficiency. Wastewater treatment has never been more effective in producing clean water without headaches," said Tom Frankel, Director SSI.

The PTFE coated fine bubble diffuser is economical is available for sale worldwide. Membranes also available as a retrofit for other brands of diffuser. This product complements the existing disc diffuser, tube diffuser and bubble diffuser products already offered by Stamford Scientific Inc.
