Torraspapel's TERMAX SF1 Obtains European RoHS Directive Certificate Of Conformity

Barcelona, Spain — Torraspapel, part of the Lecta group, in keeping with its environmental commitment and its strict waste management policy, has commenced the process of adapting its products to European Directive 2002/95/EC regarding the restriction of the use of certain hazardous substances in electrical and electronic equipment (RoHS).

Thus, anticipating the coming into force of the new law, Torraspapel's Termax SF1 thermal paper has been certified according to the RoHS standard, demonstrating that its composition does not contain hazardous substances and can be used in electrical and electronic equipment.

As of 1 July 2006, the European RoHS Directive will require manufacturers of equipment to have reduced the use of the following hazardous substances to set minimum acceptable levels: lead, hexavalent chromium, mercury, cadmium, polybrominated biphenyl (PBB) and polybrominated diphenyl ether (PBDE).

At the same time, the WEEE Directive on waste electrical and electronic equipment, which complements the RoHS Directive, establishes a series of criteria for promoting the collection, treatment, recycling and elimination of waste electrical and electronic equipment.

Both directives affect the entire electronics sector, from manufacturers to retail outlets, and their main aim is to prevent hazardous materials from being sent for landfill.

In addition to Termax SF1 thermal paper, Torraspapel's Creator coated paper and Metalvac metallised paper already have the certificate of conformity with the European RoHS Directive.

Torraspapel is firmly committed to complying with all of the regulations in environmental matters and promotes waste reduction through control of materials, improvements in the manufacturing process and the reintroduction of recycled materials into the production process.
